Debbie Bustetter

Hi! My name is Debbie Bustetter. I have been a follower of Jesus Christ since I was seventeen years old, married to my husband, Pete, for twenty-five years, educating my six children all their lives - my oldest graduated in 2020. I have been teaching science fifth and up, writing third through eighth, and geography third through eighth at the Global Christian Co-op since September of 2021. I taught science with a small science club for three years previously. For four years, our family was heavily involved in competitive speech and debate. I taught junior’s speech for two years. I like to teach with games, songs, hands-on learning and student participation. I love to intertwine the Bible in all that we are learning, bathe everything in prayer and follow His leading. Homework will be provided for parents who would like their students to work on during the week but students are not required to do homework. A sharing time will be provided during class time for those interested. Students will not be pressured into participation to allow students to learn at their own comfort level. My two girls, ages eleven and twelve, will be in the classes just to give you an idea of the age range but it will be applicable to many older ages.

Science (fifth grade and up): $35/mo ($30 for any additional sibling); one-time $40 lab fee.

We’re Moving Atoms! Fall in love with Jesus all over again looking at the world through His eyes. Marvel at His intelligence, wisdom and order all around us through a fifth-grade and up science class. This will be an interactive, hands-on approach. Topics may include simple machines, states of matter, chemical reactions, microscope science (viruses, fungi, cells), structures, energy, the periodic table, the water cycle, the rock cycle, spy science, and the scientific method. We will learn science vocabulary words, learn about famous scientists, learn about current events and inventions in science. Homework will be provided for parents who would like their students to work on during the week but students are not required to do homework. A sharing time will be provided during class time for those interested. Students will not be pressured into participation to allow students to learn at their own comfort level.

Global Geography/Cultural Studies (third grade through eighth): $35/mo ($30 for any additional sibling); one-time supply fee of $20. In this class, we will explore many different cultures through maps skills, vocabulary, games, presentation skills, prayer for the nations/government officials/persecuted church/missionaries, research skills, topography, memorization, current events, songs, land/climate and resources and industries, map tracing, and scriptures. Homework will be provided for parents who would like their students to work on during the week but students are not required to do homework. Writing: Composition/Grammar/Spelling with Phonics/Vocabulary: (third grade through eighth): $35/mo ($30 for any additional sibling). Writing is important because we can influence many people for the Lord and our writings can be handed down through generations. The Lord gives us his example by writing down his Word and has been using it for centuries. In this interactive class, we will practice writing in many forms: possible ideas are a journal, student’s testimonies or a track to share the gospel, letter writing to a friend or relative or pastor, a government official, persecuted Christians or missionaries, creative books, research essays and product reviews. The emphasis will be on something the student finds interest in so it can be tailored to their abilities and motivate them to enjoy writing. We will have an independent ten to twenty-minute writing time most weeks. Students can bring something they are working on at home from their curriculum so as to not double up on writing assignments. We will use songs, games and interactive learning and improve on phonics to learn how to spell better. We will learn basic grammar, sentence and paragraph structure.
