Hello Families! My Name is Stephanie, and I’m thrilled to be teaching science to your students’ this year. I’m a military wife, a homeschooling mom to one teen, Keeley (My son is a recent homeschool graduate of 25’), and someone who finds great joy in helping our youth discover the wonders of God’s creation through science.

I hold a Bachelor of Science from Southern Illinois University and love bringing both practical and creative approaches into the classroom.

Science Class and Lab K - 8th

Whether we are studying Deep Space, digging into the layers of the Earth, The Human Body, Chemistry, or exploring the beauty of the Animal Kingdom, I aim to make each lesson hands-on, meaningful, and rooted in truth. This class is geared toward Grades K-8. Younger students will have the same group lecture as the upper elementary/middle school age. Each student will have a journal and assignments according to level. In addition, 6th-8 will have extended learning assignments. Look forward to fun labs and games for each unit!

One of my favorite verses that inspires my teaching is:

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.” Psalm 19:1.

I want every student to walk away from our class in awe of the creator and more confident in their God-Given ability to learn and grow. When I’m not teaching, I love to travel, reading, beach days, giving back, and spending time with my family. I’m excited for a fun year of exploration, discovery, and learning!

Science Class K-8 – I will be using a mixture of Christian Based Curriculum & Literature books/videos.

Lego Class

Using Lego Educations Science/Spike program and App, students will have a blast as they learn through steam and science units, creating cool Lego projects and complete challenges as they increase their skill! Our Lego Education learning activities will force students to think critically, learn public speaking skills/presentation skills, solve complex problems, and be equipped with the essential skills needed to participate in STEM/Science careers in the 21st century!  I will be stretching minds teaching Lego Class, where students will explore creativity, teamwork, and problem solving through fun hands-on building challenges through unit studies. Each week we will be given a theme or project such as designing through unit instruction that may relate to electricity or matter, designing a vehicle, or creating a scene from the Lego App that encourages imagination and critical thinking. Our goal is to create a fun, encouraging environment where students can express their talents and build confidence, not just in the way they create, but in how they think. Open to all ages.

Lego Class: $40/month/family plus $50 one-time supply fee/student …Materials: iPad or Laptop (optional, not required), Venmo @Stephanie-McKown

Games and Logic

In our Games and Logic Class, students will build critical thinking skills, practice strategy, and have a whole lot of fun! Through board games, logic puzzles, brain teasers, and group challenges, students will learn how to think ahead, solve problems, and work both independently and as a team. I will introduce new games that encourage reasoning, pattern recognition, decision-making, and good sportsmanship. This class is designed to stretch the mind in a playful way, helping students become more confident thinkers and better collaborators. Grades 2nd & up.
