Teacher: Debbie Bustetter, Science, Writing, and Geography 4th and up

Hi! My name is Debbie Bustetter. I have been a follower of Jesus Christ since I was seventeen years old, married to my husband, Pete, for twenty-two years, educating my six children all their lives - my oldest graduated in 2020. I taught science with a small science club for three years. For four years, our family was heavily involved in competitive speech and debate. I taught junior’s speech for two years. I like to teach with games, songs, hands-on learning and student participation. I love to intertwine the Bible in all that we are learning, bathe everything in prayer and follow His leading. Homework will be provided for parents who would like their students to work on during the week but students are not required to do homework. A sharing time will be provided during class time for those interested. Students will not be pressured into participation to allow students to learn at their own comfort level. My two girls, ages nine and eleven, will be in the classes just to give you an idea of the age range but it will be applicable to many older ages.

Science (grade 4 and up): $35/mo (10% sibling discount); one time $20 lab fee.

We’re Moving Atoms! Fall in love with Jesus all over again looking at the world through His eyes. Marvel in His intelligence, wisdom and order all around us through a 4th grade and up science class. This will be an interactive, hands-on approach. Topics may include: simple machines, states of matter, chemical reactions, microscope science (viruses, fungi, cells), structures, energy, periodic table, water cycle, rock cycle, spy science, and the scientific method. I will be planning out the year and will know better midway through the summer the topics we will cover (Please send me your input as to what your students would like to learn first as we may not have time for all these topics). We will learn Science vocabulary words, learn about famous scientists, learn about current events and inventions in science. Science isn’t scary, it’s spectacular!

Global Geography/Cultural Studies (grade 3 and up): $35/mo (10% sibling discount). In this class, we will explore many different cultures through: maps skills, vocabulary, games, presentation skills, prayer for the nations/government officials/persecuted church, research skills, topography, memorization, current events, songs, countries land/climate and resources and industries, map tracing, presentation skills, and scriptures.

Composition/Grammar/Spelling with Phonics/Vocabulary: (grade 3 and up): $35/mo (10% sibling discount) Writing is important because we can influence many people for the Lord and our writings can be handed down through generations. The Lord gives us his example by writing down his Word and has been using it for centuries. In this interactive class, we will practice writing in many forms: possible ideas are a journal, student’s testimonies or a track to share the gospel, letter writing to a friend or relative or pastor, a government official, persecuted Christians or missionaries, creative books, research essays and product reviews. The emphasis will be on something the student finds interest in so it can be tailored to the student’s abilities and motivate them to enjoy writing. We will use songs, games and interaction learning why words are spelled the way they are (Logic of English) and improve on phonics to learn how to spell better as well as use Latin and Greek roots to understand vocabulary. We will learn basic grammar and sentence and paragraph structure.

Teacher: Mrs. Teresa Sines, Art Teacher, K-4th, 5th and up

Hello my name is Teresa Sines. I was baptised as a teenager in Yorktown, Virginia in 1980 and have been running after Jesus ever since. I worked with youth and children, was part of a choir and went on short term mission trips in the summers. I was employed at Peninsula Fine Art Center, the Mariners Museum in exhibit design, taught art classes and was able to show my own work at the Chrysler as a CNU student. I graduated with a studio art degree and left for Asia, degree in hand. I taught English, working with a tribal group and city dwellers, even selling handicrafts to tourists. It was there that I learned about spiritual warfare and began to exercise the spiritual gifts.

My most recent teaching experience was at Stonebridge School in Chesapeake (8 years) where I taught Middle and High School art classes, Summer Art Camps and was a high school mentor. Currently I teach privately. I am developing a body of artwork for sale and a member of the  Thriving Christian Artists group.

My greatest joy is to assist students as they develop a relationship with Jesus, walk in their gifting, and use their skills to draw people to the kingdom.

All people have the fingerprint of God and are made to create

I would love to see student work and what media your child is interested in. Art is for everyone!

Teacher: Cathy Hutchinson, STEM, K - 5th, 6th and up

Hi, I am Cathy Hutchinson, and I will be teaching STEM this year.  I was baptized into the body of Christ in June of 1997.  My husband, John, was a believer when I met him, and the Spirit worked through him to lead me to Christ.  John retired from the Navy after serving for 22 years and currently works in a local hospital.  After graduating from Old Dominion University in 1991,  I taught gifted and talented at Old Donation Center in the Virginia Beach Public Schools and in a school district in central Ohio.  In Ohio I taught gifted and talented resource groups for ten years, and transferred to an intermediate school where I taught math, science, and social studies.  I retired from teaching in 2017 to move back to Virginia to be close to our two grandsons who were born in 2016.  I homeschooled the two of them last year and loved every minute of it.  I am still homeschooling the youngest grandson and was looking for a coop when I found  Global Christian Coop!  I love teaching science because it helps us appreciate and understand God's creation.

Class description:

Stem classes this year will begin with some foundational work on the scientific process and engineering design while we construct and test rockets.  Next we will explore potential and kinetic energy as we design and make roller coasters, catapults, and vehicles that may require a race or two!  Later in the year we will turn our focus to chemistry of mixtures during which we will enjoy some rock candy, slushies, and ice cream.

The monthly fee for STEM is $45 with a 10% sibling discount and a one time lab fee of $20. Payments can be made via paypal to catherinehutchinson2@gmail.com

Teacher: Emili Dillahunty, Music Appreciation, Grades K - 4th, and 5th and up

Hello! My name is Emili Dillahunty. I have been loving and serving the Lord Jesus for almost 30 years. I am a homeschool mom of two, and my husband Kevin and I have been married for 14 years. I have been serving in ministry since I was 14, most of which has been in children’s and youth ministry as Children’s Choir Director and Children’s Musical Director.  I have served on many worship teams as a vocalist, and taught children’s discipleship classes. I am currently the Children’s Pastor at a local church. My music background consists of 7 years of music education, and I play the flute and the ukulele. I believe music is an invaluable part of every person’s life. If you've ever gotten a commercial jingle stuck in your head, I'm sure you understand just how music can weave into our hearts and minds. Music can be a beautiful vehicle for truth and encouragement. By introducing our children to diverse styles and the mechanics of music early on, we open their minds to the language that is music, and foster their curiosity to explore expression in many forms.

Music Appreciation K-4 and 5-12: $35 per month, and $20 one time supply fee

We will be exploring the 5 basic elements of music: Rhythm, Melody, Harmony, Form, and Timbre, along with learning music theory and history. We will introduce music throughout history from classical to modern day. We will play games and instruments to reinforce the concepts and information of the lesson. The students we work as a large group, in small groups and individually during various parts of each class. I will be providing a syllabus by mid- summer for a more detailed look at lesson topics including composers, music selections, and music therapy connections.

Teacher: Carrie Doherty, K-4th Science, Games and Logic, and Math Fact Building

I am a seasoned homeschool mom with 4 children, ages 23, 18, 16, and 8. I have my BS in Elementary Education and am a certified Life Coach specializing in behavior intelligence and executive function. Along with the experience of teaching my own children, I have been the jack of all trades within education for the last 30 years. I have been a tutor, curriculum writer, co-creator and administrator of a school, and an executive function/life coach. 13 years ago, the Lord asked me to begin studying the brain and leadership development. It has been a joy to learn at the feet of Jesus. Helping students understand how their brain works, discover who God made them to be, and watch them grow into strong young men and women who let their lives shine for Jesus is my greatest honor and joy!

Math Fact Building

Ages: 8-13
Cost: $35 per student, 10% sibling discount

Believe it or not, math can be F-U-N. But for some student’s math equals anxiety, fear, tears, and many times a feeling of failure. This course is designed to bring back the fun in learning while building confidence and mastery of basic math facts. These basic math facts are the building blocks of higher-level math and more complex algorithms. If we take time now to build a strong foundation, we set our children up for success. This class is geared toward children ages 8-13, but all are welcome. (younger students need teacher permission to join this class).

First semester we will focus on addition, subtraction, multiplication, and addition.  Second semester we will practice using those skills with fractions, decimals, percentage, and ratios.

Elementary Science

Ages: 6-10
Cost: $45 per student, 10% sibling discount
Supply Fee: Varies depending on Labs and Experiments (most things can be found in your kitchen)

Children learn best by doing. We all know that, however, sometimes those hands on experiments that make science and learning so much fun are also the most challenging for moms to complete at home. Each week we will plan experiments to help students discover God’s creation. We will learn chemistry in the kitchen, build air powered cars, make our own volcanos and rockets, and so much more. No matter what we do, your kids will have fun while learning. They’ll probably make a big mess while doing it too, but the best part is that you won’t have to clean it up.

Brain Games and Logic

Ages: 6-17
Cost: $35 per student, 10% sibling discount
Supplies: $50

Does your child struggle with attention span, focus, organization, or test anxiety? Scientists have learned that our brain is functioning at it’s best when both hemispheres are working at the same time. This is called Whole Brain Thinking. In this class we will learn new skills that encourage the development of neuropathways between both hemispheres of the brain, creating whole brain thinkers! These skills are fun and challenging for all ages. For the greatest growth, practice at home is recommended. Many have seen huge improvements in attention span, sports ability, memory, and grades in school just by practicing these new skills.

Payment can be made to: Venmo @Carrie-Doherty-6 or paypal friends and family gifts carrieanned6@gmail.com or 757-650-1380, or Zelle through phone number 757-650-1380 - Carrie Doherty
